The residence of Jamaica's Ambassador to Mexico, Sandra Anita Grant Griffith, was robbed last Saturday.

This revelation was made by Pan-Latin American television station Telesur, headquartered in Venezuela.

According to Telesur, the diplomat realised her home had been violated and requested aid from the authorities. "Upon entering the house, I realised things were in disarray as if someone was looking for something," Grant was quoted as saying in her statement to officials of Mexico's Public Ministry.

Authorities reported that the property was checked and that jewellery was reportedly stolen.

According to the police spokesman, residential burglaries in Lomas de Chapultepec, in Mexico's capital city, have increased in recent months.

Several embassies and foreign officials live within this residential area.

The newspaper El Universal is reporting that some of the recent assaults in the area have been attributed to gangs of Colombian origin.
