Taxi driver on murder rap remanded again

Joseph Walker, the Westmoreland taxi driver charged with the murder of two women, was again remanded when he appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Walker is charged with the deaths of Janoy Campbell and Nyoka Campbell, both of Montego Bay, St James. They were allegedly killed while Walker was transporting them for Boy and Girls' Championship in 2011.

When the case was mentioned in the St Catherine Circuit Court, attorney-at-Law Christian Tavares-Finson made a strenuous bail application which was denied.

He told court that his client had been languishing in custody for a long time while the Crown dragged its feet.

The prosecution revealed that the matter would be tried January 8, next year.

Allegations are that in 2011 during the staging of the Boys and Girls' Championship,Walker was transporting the women from Montego Bay, St James. They were not seen again until their bodies with stab wounds were found in bushes near Spring Village, St Catherine.

Investigations by Detective Corporal André Smith led to him being charged with murder.

He has made numerous court appearances and maintained his innocence throughout.
