A man is now in police custody after he was allegedly caught in a section of the Bernard Lodge cane field in St Catherine having sex with a minor in a car, THE STAR has learnt.
Information reaching our news team is that the man, whose name is being withheld pending further investigation, is being held on suspicion of sexual intercourse with a person under 16 years old.
THE STAR gathered that a police team on special duty was patrolling when, on reaching the cane fields, they observed a motor vehicle with two occupants.
A closer check was made and it was discovered that both were engaged in sexual intercourse.
Our news team understands that the minor, who reportedly attends school in the parish, was removed from the scene and brought to a place of safety.
When our news team contacted the St. Catherine police, it was disclosed that charges could be laid early this week.
THE STAR was also informed that there have been reports that on regular occurrences, persons use the areas in the cane fields to carry out sexual acts.
Though this might be so, an officer close to the investigation said, "This is actually the first time we have caught someone red-handed."
