Residents who went to pay their last respect at a 'dead yard' in a Clarendon community on the weekend were sent scampering for cover after a man shot another, following an argument over food at the event.

Information reaching THE STAR is that at about 2 a.m., the alleged shooter and the cook were engaged in an argument about food when a young man from the community intervened, much to the shooter's displeasure.

"Him and the cook was arguing over the food, then a young man jumped in to the argument, him assault the young man because he intervened," a resident told THE STAR.

According to residents, the cook is an elderly woman who is well respected throughout the community and the young man came to her defence because of the shooter's blatant lack of respect.

Residents told THE STAR that shortly after his argument with that young man, he was engaged in another argument with a different man, again, about his behaviour about the food. It was then to the resident's horror that the shooter opened fire on the unsuspecting man shooting him in the abdomen.

The 22-year-old victim, who was also gunbutted by the shooter, was rushed and admitted to hospital for treatment.

THE STAR contacted the Chapelton Police Station, and according to the police, a 24-year-old man was taken into custody in relation to the shooting.

It was also revealed to THE STAR that the shooter is also an alleged gunman from another community in the May Pen area.
