Social intervention prevents brothers from facing criminal charges

Rasbert Turner, Star Writer

Three brothers who allegedly assaulted a bus conductor earlier this year were freed yesterday in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court. This was after the complainant revealed that he was satisfied following a social intervention.

Those freed are constables Ramees Ramdeen and Dean Ramdeen and labourer Davy Ramdeen.

When the case was mentioned, the complainant told the court that mediation was successful.

He also revealed that he has received his medical bill of $30,000 from the accused and he no longer wished to pursue the matter.

Resident Magistrate Horace Mitchell then ordered that the men be freed of criminal charges.

Allegations are that on January 1, the complainant was in Bayside, Portmore, St Catherine when he was held and beaten by the accused including Ramees with whom he had a dispute earlier that day.

A report was made to the police and an investigation launched.

A file was sent to the offices of the Director of Public Prosecutions which ruled that the brothers be charged with assault occasioning bodily harm.

The men were represented by Attorney-at-Law Tameka Harris.
