Alleged murderess out on bonds

A janitor, who is accused of killing her abusive boyfriend, was granted bail in the sum of $300,000 with surety in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

Charged with murder is Norbia Allen, who had an asthma attack while in court.

The Crown alleges that Allen and her boyfriend were involved in an altercation which caused him to hit her in the face. She then stabbed him in the chest.

He was rushed to the Kingston Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. She went to the hospital and saw a relative of the deceased and told him she did not mean to stab him.

The attorney representing Allen said she was in an abusive relationship with the deceased for years. According to her attorney, the deceased was jealous.

He would lock her up in the house and give her make-up to cover up bruises she sustained when she was injured. He would also destroy her phone to prevent her from making calls and when she spent late nights at work, he accused her of having an affair.

Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey subsequently granted bail to the accused, who is to return to court on December 10, when the matter will be mentioned.

A post-mortem is outstanding in the matter.
