St Thomas killing puzzles cops

Deon P Green, Star Writer

The Golden Grove police in St Thomas are puzzled by a suspected fatal shooting of a man in that parish on Saturday. Dead is 23-year-old Romio Lynch from Long Hill Road, Montego Bay, St James.

Reports reaching The Star are that about 3 p.m., residents in Stokes Hall heard an explosion at the Sugar Housing Scheme, under construction in the area. Minutes later, a man was seen struggling to get from the worksite with a wound to the abdomen.

It is understood that a passing motorist took the wounded man to hospital. It was said that the injured man, who was working on the site, told the medical staff at the hospital that he was injured by a steel.

Lynch underwent surgery, but later died. Hospital sources confirmed that the injury was consistent with that of a gunshot wound that entered and exited the abdomen.

Police investigating the incident were tight-lipped. However, it was stated that the police are puzzled by who may have shot Lynch, as security personnel on the site have claimed that they are unaware of any shooting at the reported time surrounding the incident.

Further probe by The Starrevealed that the site is plagued by theft and regular conflicts among workers, many of whom are not from St Thomas.
