COK promotes healthy lifestyle

On Friday, June 6, COK Sodality Cooperative Credit Union hosted another in its series of Healthy Fridays to ensure that its members and staff are aware of the importance of eating right, exercising, and getting regular medical check-ups in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

The day's activities included ECG tests provided by the Heart Foundation and free blood sugar and blood pressure tests for persons who visited the Diabetes Association of Jamaica booth. Claudine Scott, head of marketing at COK, said that the company is trying to promote, as best as possible, the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle.

"COK is fully committed to ensuring that their staff members and representatives engage in healthy lifestyle practices. Today, we are making the activities as enjoyable as possible for them," said Scott.

Companies were also present at the event where they showcased and promoted their products. Organo Gold had a wide variety of coffees, teas, and soaps, while Proactive Lifestyle specialised in health products, weight-loss regimens, beauty products, and foot detox. Kirk Distributors offered free facial analysis and treated the staff to healthy snacks.

The outdoor activities made the day an exciting one as members of staff participated in medley relays and netball and football competitions.

COK representatives from the Portmore, Half-Way Tree, Cross Roads branches and the Call Centre were divided into teams as they participated in an exciting game of football to start out, and ending with an entertaining game of netball. Persons also enjoyed playing dominos and other board games.

Earlier this year, the company had a 'work it out challenge', where members of staff were challenged to see who could lose the most weight. This challenge ended in May and the winners were rewarded.

"We want to add more long- evity to the lives of our team and our members. The company is fortunate to have the use of another organisation's gym in an effort to encourage staff to lead a strong, fit and healthy way of life," Scott said.
