Jamaican gets two years in Barbados for drugs


Twenty-three-year-old Jamaican, Tishana Harris, was sentenced to two years in prison when she appeared in the Oistins Magistrates Court in Barbados to answer to drug- related charges Thursday.


According Nation News, Harris was sentenced to two years each for possession and trafficking of cannabis after being unable to pay $100,000 Barbados dollars in fines when she appeared in court.


Her sentences will run concurrently.


She was also admonished and discharged on charges of importation and possession with intent to supply.


Harris arrived in Barbados on Wednesday from Jamaica and her luggage was examined by Customs. Nine taped packages containing the illegal drug were discovered concealed in a false compartment in her suitcase.


She was subsequently detained by customs officers and arrested and charged.
