Cops probe teacher's murder

Police investigators in St Catherine are trying to ascertain the persons responsible for the death of an Excelsior High School teacher whose body was found in Old Harbour, St Catherine yesterday.


He has been identified as Nigel Riley who is in his 40s, from Clarendon Housing Scheme in St Catherine.


Police said, Riley who teaches at the Excelsior High School in St Andrew was last seen alive about 7 p.m. on Sunday.


It is reported that about 7:30 a.m., yesterday, passers-by stumbled upon the body in an open lot near to the Aviary Housing Scheme in Old Harbour. The police was called and the scene processed. Police said the body's right hand was severed and the throat slashed.


Scores of residents converged on the scene and expressed sadness about the situation.


"When I was a child we used to come here and play, this is very sad," a bystander said.


The matter is being investigated by Detective Sergeant Constantine Campbell of the Old Harbour Police Station's Criminal Investigation Branch.
