The police say they have nabbed eight persons who were wanted for serious crimes during the first week of activities under Operation Resilience III.
Among those captured are Ryan 'Little Blacks' Bembridge, who was wanted in connection with the shooting death of two persons, one of them an 11-year-old boy, and the injuring of nine others in Tivoli Courts in May.
He was captured in Westmoreland on Friday, June 6.
Javein Coke, otherwise called 'Tico', who was also wanted for several murders, was captured in the Kingston Western Division.
Iran Cole, Diovanni 'Ratti' Whoupe, Kemo Jadean, otherwise called Kemo Salmon, and Romaine Forbes, otherwise called 'Rooney', who were all wanted for murders and shootings, were also captured in the Kingston Western Division.
Two others, Michael Godden and Clifton Morris, otherwise called 'Travis', both of whom were wanted for murder, were captured on Thursday, June 5, with the latter being held in the St Andrew South Division, and the former in St Thomas.
The week's activities also saw the seizure of 15 firearms, 169 assorted rounds of ammunition, in excess of 700 illegal DVDs, several cartons of uncustomed cigarettes, and 165 pounds (74.84 kilograms) of ganja. A stolen motor car and several electronic devices were also recovered.
Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations, Glenmore Hinds, in a release to the press yesterday, assured members of the public that the police will continue to operate within the confines of the law, with respect for human rights and dignity.
He also encouraged residents to report any instance of police misconduct.
