A St James man, who admitted to stealing his neighbour's tools in order to do road-repair work, was remanded when he appeared before the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.
Devon Foster, of a Montego Bay address, pleaded guilty to storehouse-breaking, committed against Ewen Barnes. He was remanded until April 1, at which time his criminal records are to be brought before the court to aid in determining his sentence.
Although the date of the incident was not stated, the court was told that Foster had broken into Barnes' storeroom and stolen several tools, including a wheelbarrow, electrical wires, cement, steel, and a number of spray pans.
"We are neighbours, and I took his tools and used them. The items were over on an open lot, where he (Barnes) is doing construction," Foster told Resident Magistrate Carolyn Tie.
"But he is saying his things were locked away," said RM Tie.
"They were not locked away, I borrowed them to work on the road because the road was bad. We work together," Foster replied.
"For you to take somebody's things and have them for a long time, both of you are not working together," RM Tie said dryly.
Foster's case was subsequently set for sentencing on April 1.
