Jamaican prisoner escapes police custody in Trinidad

A Jamaican prisoner in Trinidad escaped police custody on Saturday evening, after being treated at a health facility for a shoulder injury.

According to the Trinidadian police, the 23-year-old man was held last Friday evening on suspicion of being an illegal immigrant.


He was taken to the Arima District Health Facility for examination the following day, after complaining of a severe pain in his shoulder.

After receiving treatment, the Jamaican national, who was being assisted by an officer with putting on his shirt, ran for the door and made his escape.


The man dashed past the two officers who were in the room and a subsequent chase ensued on to the roadway where he made good his escape.


Police in the area were notified and a search was carried out, however, the man could not be found.


The Trinidadian police are currently investigating.
