A policeman and his accomplice were remanded when they appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on case of theft on Tuesday.

Patrick Lindsay of Edward Road, Kingston 11, and Robert Wright of the Hunts Bay police station in St Andrew are charged with two counts simple larceny and soliciting and accepting money.

When the matter was mentioned before Resident Magistrate Simone Maddix, a bail application made on behalf of both men was unsuccessful.

The clerk of courts told the defence that there were other crimes that the accused are suspected of being involved in and there were other statements outstanding.

Allegations are that on February 13, 2015 both accused went into the Glengoffe area. They went to the complainant's home and identified themselves as police personnel.

They then allegedly asked if he had any illegal cigarettes or ganja. He reportedly mentioned that he had about 10 ounces of ganja and he was reprimanded for having more than two ounces.

Made an alarm

A demand was reportedly made from the man for money and he reportedly gave over $10,000. It is reported that Lindsay and Wright searched the place and found another $13,000, which they stole.

The complainant managed to run and made an alarm.

A report was made to the Glengoffe police and the vehicle was intercepted.

An angry mob descended on the men but they were rescued by the police.

A file was compiled and sent to the offices of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

A ruling was handed down that they be charged with two counts simple larceny and soliciting and accepting money.

They are to reappear on Tuesday March 11, when the matter will again be mentioned.
