Gov't needs to reach out, help our children

André Williams, STAR Writer

Our nation's image, as it relates to child abuse took a battering once more on Tuesday in light of the 15th child being brutally murdered since the start of the year.

The life of Kayalicia Simpson, 14, a second-form student of Donald Quarrie High School, was cut short, allegedly while she readied herself for school.

Information received is that she was found at the back of her house with chop wounds to her head and neck.

Earlier this year, 14-year-old Santoya Campbell of Frome in Westmoreland and three-year-old Crystal Coleman of St Mary were murdered.

With that in mind, THE STAR asked a member of the public, as part of our peoples' opinion feature, their take on the crisis affecting children.

For recording artiste Daimion 'George P' Smith, who is a father of four - two boys and two girls, ages 11, seven, six and three respectively - the situation is intolerable.

Smith said, "I think physical action should be taken against anyone who neglect, abuse, rape and molest children. The youths are the future, the prime minister and her government need to reach out and help the children of our nation."

Stay tuned for next weeks segment of the People's Opinion, where the public voice there sentiments on varying topical issues.
