A man in whose car police claimed they found more than 20 pounds of ganja was granted bail when he appeared in the Linstead Resident Magistrate's Court last Friday for breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act.

Garfield Edwards, otherwise called Eggy, from Giblatore district in Bog Walk, St Catherine, was granted bail in the sum of $50,000 when he appeared in the court charged with possession, dealing and trafficking ganja. He is also charged with unlawful possession of more than $90,000 found at his house.

When the matter was called up, attorney-at-law Jermaine Reid, who represents Edwards, told the court that his client is a fit candidate for bail. He said Edwards' house was searched with him outside, after which the police informed him of the money which was found.

Bail was granted on condition that he reports weekly to the Bog Walk Police Station. Edwards is to return to court on April 1, 2015, when the matter will again be mentioned.

Allegations are that on February 15, 2015, police stopped a Toyota motor car being driven by Edwards. The trunk of the car was searched and vegetable matter resembling ganja was found.

He was taken to his home where a total of $95,000 in cash was found, plus a small quantity of ganja.

He was arrested and charged by Detective Sergeant Oral Israel of the St Catherine North Police Division.
