A man who physically injured his mother in a fit of anger pleaded guilty when he appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
When the case was mentioned, the complainant told the court that it pains her heart to see her child go to prison.
"It is very sad, but he cannot return home. I have been taking him for psychiatric treatment since age 10 for anger problems. I have really tried, " she said with tears streaming down her face.
As she explained, the accused hung his head in embarrassment or resignation to his present circumstances.

In emphasising how troubled her son is, she said knives, scissors, machetes, and other things had to be hidden as he is always likely to injure his siblings.
Meanwhile, Resident Magistrate Marcia Dunbar-Green made reference to another similar case that came before her and asked the complainant not to give up.
"I must tell you, I seen another case, and after treatment, the mother spoke highly of redemption. So don't give up on your child, " Dunbar-Green said.
She then asked for the intervention of the Probation's Department, and the court was informed that treatment was available privately.
Allegations are that earlier this month, there was a disagreement between the complainant and the accused, when he hit her.
A report was made to the police, which led to the accused been charged with assault occasioning bodily harm.
