Linstead cop taken into custody

Rasbert Turner, STAR Writer

A police constable attached to the Linstead Police Station in St Catherine was taken into custody yesterday, after he was in possession of a quantity of ganja, tobacco, magnum tonic wine, and lighters heading into the holding area of the station where he was assigned.

Reports are that about 2 p.m., the policeman, who is still on probation to be confirmed by the Commissioner of Police, was observed going towards the cell. He was stopped by senior personnel, who searched him and allegedly found the illicit items in his possession.

His name has been withheld by investigators while a file is being compiled against him for breaches of the Corrections Act.

Meanwhile, THE STAR was informed that for some time, contraband of all sorts have been finding its way into the hands of persons being housed at the lockups. The police believe that the arrest of the probationer is seen as a dent in the practice.
