"You can't deport me ... I'm gay!" was the explanation given by 55-year-old Jamaican, Alvin Brissett, after he was scheduled to be deported from the United Kingdom to Jamaica.
According to the UK-based Daily Mail, moments before being placed on a plane at Gatwick Airport to board a flight to Jamaica, Brissett allegedly declared he was a homosexual and claimed he could not return to Jamaica as he could face discrimination due to his sexual orientation.
Two Immigration Judges later ruled in favour of Brissett, stating that his right to a family life is more important than the Government's wish to protect British citizens from him.
Brissett, who is reportedly a father of two children, has been residing in East London since he was 13 years old.
He reportedly has 18 convictions for theft, three for possession of drugs and four for assault.
According to the Daily Mail, in 1993, he was jailed for seven years for robbery. He also received a 12-month sentence for theft and threatening behaviour at a later date and in 2009, he was also jailed for a street attack.
