Cops probe school security guard's death

André Williams, STAR Writer

Police investigators in St Mary have launched a probe into the death of a guard whose body was found on the compound of the Tacky High School yesterday morning, THE STAR understands.

Information reaching our news desk is that, 44-year-old Hewit Jarrett, of Saltrum, Gayle, was reportedly the same security guard who was tied up by men last May, after they entered the premises to rob the school, but instead set fire to the administrative block and staff room.

Commanding Officer for the St Mary Police Division, Superintendent Dean Johnson, confirmed the body as that of the school's security guard.

THE STAR gathered that the body was found with what appeared to be gunshot wounds.

It was reported that in May, four armed men arrived at the school sometime around 1 a.m.

They allegedly held up the security guard and demanded the combination key to school's vault.

Further reports are that when the demand was not met, they tied up the security guard and set fire to the administrative block.
