Spanish Town resident fined for ganja possession

A St Catherine man was fined a total of $10,200 when he appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.


David Smith, a 30-year-old, unemployed resident of Spanish Town, pleaded guilty to possession of ganja and dealing in ganja.


He was fined $3,400 for possession, and $6,800 or 10 days imprisonment for dealing in ganja.


The RM told him that he should be careful, as the amendment to the Dangerous Drugs Act is yet to be done.


Reports are, a police party was on patrol in Spanish Town. When Smith was stopped and searched, ganja weighing 34 ounces (963 grams) was found his possession.
