A St Catherine man accused of chopping and robbing his brother told the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court that a "season spliff" made him carry out the acts.

He is Glenroy Paisley, a 32-year-old labourer of Newlands district in Portmore.

When the case was mentioned on Tuesday, the complainant requested that his brother explain why he chopped him.

"I was given a spliff by someone and, after I smoked it, I saw evil come over me and I attacked my brother," Paisley explained to the court.

Resident Magistrate Anmarie Nembhard told the court that she needs to see the medical certificate.

Allegations are that, on February 3, 2015, the complainant arrived home and was accosted by Paisley, who said he wanted to speak with him. The court heard that the complainant came outside his house to speak with the accused, who then demanded his wallet, his house keys and cellular phone.

It was further heard that Paisley then brandished a machete and chopped the complainant on his head and left hand. The complainant received 26 stitches and was hospitalised for one month, the court heard.

Paisley is to return to court on May 5, 2015 when the matter will again be mentioned.
