Woman gets community service for punching

A Vineyard Town woman who is accused of punching a man in the eye was ordered to serve 50 hours community service by the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.


She is Arita Robinson, charged with disorderly conduct and assault occasioning bodily harm.

The Crown alleges that Robinson, a bartender, got into a dispute with her babyfather over their children. The dispute got physical when Robinson, who was now at the police station, punched the complainant in his eye in front of police officers causing injuries.


"Is the first time I'm hitting your honour," she explained.


Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey ordered her to do 50 hours of community service or serve two years in prison.
