Following the recent circulation of pornographic content involving schoolgirls from a rural-based school on popular social media site Facebook, the Office of The Children's Advocate is warning the public that sharing child pornographic material is a criminal offence.

Children's advocate, Diahann Gordon Harrison, says that this practice must stop as it is not only dehumanising, but also erodes the moral fabric of society. She also said that this act is intolerable, illegal and unacceptable.
Checks made by THE WEEKEND STAR revealed that the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA), are probing the videos and pictures which emerged last week.
No arrest has been made.
Under the Child Pornography (Prevention) Act, a person who knowingly distributes, produces, advertises, imports or exports child pornography commits an offence.
Such a person is liable to be fined or imprisoned for a term not exceeding 15 years, or both.
Meanwhile, The Office of The Children's Advocate is recommending that parents, guardians, and caregivers have frank and age appropriate discussions with their children about sexual activity.
