Several motorists who rushed to service stations yesterday evening because of an ongoing strike by tanker drivers were turned away due to the lack of fuel.
THE STAR visited several gas stations in the Corporate area last night, and most of them were either closed or had diesel fuel only.
Tanker drivers islandwide withdrew their services and have issued threats to continue their strike action to force petroleum marketing companies to honour a Memorandum of Understanding, (MoU) signed last year.
Gas finished
"I am just coming from work and I stop and this is the second gas station that I am stopping. My tank is not empty, but di way tings a move, I want to full up my tank," said a driver who was at the Johnson's Petroleum service station on Beechwood Avenue.
That gas station, THE STAR was told, has been without gasolene since Tuesday evening.
"Gas finished from in the afternoon. Because a driver would see another driver turn in a di station dem might think dat gas is here, but there is no gas. I don't know what's gonna happen," a pump attendant at a Texaco gas station on Half-Way Tree road told THE STAR.
Meanwhile, despite the strike, effective today, a litre of E10-87 gasolene is to be sold for $114.71, while E10-90 will be sold for $116.36 per litre.
The prices of all other petroleum products have also been increased. This includes automotive diesel oil which will move up by $1.64 to be sold for $124.90 per litre.
Retailers will add their markups to the announced prices.
