A Jamaican athlete has allegedly sprinted from the United States of America following reports that he assaulted his girlfriend, who is also an athlete.
THE STAR understands that both athletes last represented Jamaica at the 2011 World Championships in Daegu, South Korea.
Information reaching our news team is that the pair had a recent dispute in which the female athlete was allegedly beaten, resulting in the male athlete leaving the states in an attempt to maintain a low profile.
A source close to the two told THE STAR that reports had also surfaced in the past that the two had an abusive relationship.
"A something him do all the while. They have been together for sometime, through all college. She got pregnant outside their relationship. At one point in time they were training together and problems arose and she had to leave," the source claimed.
THE STAR also gathered that they were enrolled in different colleges while in the United States, but could only maintain a strained relationship because of the frequent abuse.
Our news team could not confirm if the female athlete made a report to the police about the assault.
Efforts by THE STAR to speak with both athletes proved futile.
