A man who pleaded guilty to the stabbing of his girlfriend was sentenced to 15 years' hard labour in the Supreme Court yesterday.
He is Marvin Douglas, 34-year-old, labourer, of Mount View, St Catherine.
Douglas was sentenced after the death of Charmain Duncan, 46-year-old labourer, also of Mount View.
When the matter came up in court, attorney Lancelot Clarke made an impassioned plea on Douglas' behalf.
Clarke claimed that it was Duncan who attacked the accused and that the circumstances must be considered.

In handing down his sentence, however, Justice Glen Brown told the accused that it was a cruel act that he committed.
The Crown alleged that on May 4, 2012 the accused and Duncan had a disagreement at home when he was said to have stabbed her 20 times.
He reportedly drove away from the scene, however, his vehicle crashed along the Highway 2000 Toll Road. Douglas was hospitalised as a result of injuries received.
Investigation by Detective Corporal Jerimiah Bryant led to him been charged with murder.
Douglas pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter in the St Catherine Court in December.
