Despite a sharp decline in the number of persons killed on the nation's roadways this month, Jamaica is close to recording 300 road fatalities in a single year yet again.
The National Road Safety Council (NRSC) released data showing with one month still to go before year end, 288 persons have been killed in 264 crashes since January 1.
According to the NRSC, this is a four per cent increase when compared with the 277 road deaths recorded for the corresponding period last year and a 17 per cent jump when compared with the 237 road fatalities recorded for corresponding period in 2012 when Jamaica recorded fewer than 300 road deaths.
The NRSC reported that 15 persons were killed in 13 motor vehicle crashes in November.
This is a sharp reduction from the 27 road deaths recorded for October and the one month high this year of 37, which was recorded for March.
