The St Catherine Health Department said its inspectors will be vigilant against the sale of unfit meat to unsuspecting consumers especially in this holiday season.

According to chief public health inspector, Grayson Hutchinson, persons should be on the alert especially during the Christmas season.

"There are persons who just sell any meat even though it has not been tested; this can be detrimental to people's health," Hutchinson told councillors during the monthly meeting of the St Catherine Parish Council yesterday.

He said there are persons whose licence to deal with meat have been taken away for various reasons, but they continue to do it illegally.

Hutchinson said markets, restaurants, meat shops, supermarkets and other places will be checked regularly to ensure safety.

he also told councillors that public health inspectors will soon be issued with their own stamps bearing their names.

stamps will bear the names of the inspectors who are to use it as the current ones are often used by the wrong persons," Hutchinson continued.

Hutchinson implored the Local Government representatives to be vigilant.
