A man is now in custody after two illegal guns and ammunition were found during a search by the police.
An M16 rifle with a magazine containing 24 rounds and a 9-millimetre Lugar pistol and magazine with five 9-millimetre cartridges were reportedly seized by the Westmoreland police on the weekend.
The illegal weapons and ammunition were recovered during an operation in Fullersfield in the parish capital, Savana-la-mar.
It is reported that about 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, police were conducting an operation in the area when the suspect was searched and the Lugar pistol reportedly found on his person. The M16 rifle was allegedly found during a further search of a nearby apartment occupied by him. He was subsequently arrested.
His identity is being withheld pending further investigations.
