A St James man who was arrested in connection with two murders committed over a three-year period was remanded and his case set for mention on January 15, 2015, when he appeared before the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Sibone Smith, from Barrett Town, is charged with the murders of Joshua Reid and Haniff Sinclair, also of Barrett Town. Reid was shot dead outside his home by an unknown assailant on June 8, 2012, and Sinclair was shot and killed while walking with friends on August 31, 2014.

It is alleged that, following Reid's death, Smith was pointed out in an identification parade and subsequently arrested. He was arrested again after being pointed out to the police in connection with Sinclair's murder.

In court yesterday, clerk of the court Reginald England told presiding magistrate Carolyn Tie that two documents relating the two charges were outstanding from the prosecution's case-file.

"I understand that the post-mortem report in one of the matters is ready, it is just to be picked up. In the other matter, the forensic report is outstanding as some things were taken from the accused man," said England.

RM Tie subsequently set the case to be heard on January 15, at which time Smith's attorney, Albert Morgan, has indicated he would make a bail application.
