A man who pleaded guilty to receiving a stolen mobile device was sentenced to three months in prison when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday.
Charged with receiving stolen property is 23-year-old Nicholas Walker of a Kingston address.
According to reports, on December 27, around 9 p.m., the accused was riding a bicycle carelessly without any warning device and was stopped by the police.
When stopped, he was seen with a black scandal bag and it was searched. A white Samsung tablet was found and when it was turned on a name other than the accused's was displayed on the screen.
The accused reportedly told the lawmen that he was not the owner of the device, and that it was given to him by a friend.
After the allegations were read, Walker told Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey that he did not know the tablet was stolen and was paid to transport the device by a friend.
"Is a youth from Red Hills Road give me it fi carry go unlock. Him seh him woulda give me a ting if me carry it fi him, but when the police go look for him, him run," he said.
Walker, who had at first pleaded not guilty to receiving stolen property, changed his plea to guilty when he was told that the matter would be sent to trial.
