Nail tech gets six months for stabbing

A hair and nail technician was sentenced to six months' imprisonment after she used a tool of her trade, a scissors, to inflict multiple stab wounds on another female she was involved in a feud with.

Yesterday, when the matter was called up in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court, the accused Shanara Gordon, 19, pleaded guilty with explanation.

Gordon is charged with unlawful wounding.

She told the court that the complainant in the matter was at odds with her because she is currently in a relationship with the complainant's former lover.

Gordon boldly said, "Your Honour, we don't talk because mi deh with her babyfather now."

The court was told that on the day of the incident, the two were in their community when a fight developed after they bumped into each other while negotiating a corner.

Gordon said, "We buck up in each other around a corner... she chuck me and then used a board and lick mi and then I used my scissors to stab her."

The complainant told the court that she received six stabs to include one on her breast and three on her hand.

Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey then handed down her sentence.

A fingerprint order was also made against Gordon.
