The latest Jamaica Survey of Living Conditions has shown that female-headed households continue to bear a greater burden of dependants than male-headed households.
The 2012 survey shows that female-headed households were 46.4 per cent of all households and the survey says these households were comprised of a larger proportion of children.
Also, among female-headed households, those with children and no man present took the largest share at 53.4 per cent.
Households headed by males reflected larger proportions of persons in the working age group at 66.7 per cent while 10.6 per cent were dependent elderly men.
Meanwhile, a trend of a growing number of Jamaicans living alone has continued.
The 2012 survey says single person households were the most prevalent household structure, accounting for 25.2 per cent of all households, while two-member households were 20.4 per cent.
This follows the trend picked up in the 2009 survey, which showed that 24 per cent of all households were single-member households, with this number growing to 26.4 per cent in 2010.
