Woman on assault rap for trial next year

After being accused of assaulting a policeman almost a year ago, 36-year-old Tamara Porter of Mannings Hill Road, Kingston 8, will go on trial next year.

Porter pleaded not guilty to assaulting the policeman when she appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday.

According to the police report, on October 21, of last year, about 12:40 p.m., police went to an assignment on Mannings Hill Road. While there, Porter allegedly held on to the officer's uniform shirt and punched him in the mouth, which caused bruises and swelling to the inner lip.

Porter, however, denied the allegations, stating that, she was at a party in the area when the police entered the venue and attempted to turn off the music. The injured officer, she claimed, heard her curse an expletive to which he responded by grabbing her collar and proceeded to beat her.

The accused told the court two police personnel assaulted her and she received nine stitches for the injuries.

She is to return to court for trial on February 5, 2015.
