A team led by the Portmore Municipal Council, assisted by the police and the Jamaica Public Service, removed a cell tower concealed in a black water tank at premises located at Cumberland Meadows in Portmore, St Catherine, on Tuesday.

Thousands of dollars worth of equipment were said to have been seized during the operation. A close source revealed that under the Town and Country Planning Act, notice had been served on the premises since the owner of the property no longer lives at the house, since the tower had been erected.

The source also disclosed that community members had been up in arms over the tower's construction. The Portmore Municipal Council does not give permission for persons to erect cell towers in residential areas.
