A man defending his babymother in a matter where the pair allegedly assaulted a pregnant woman, had their bails extended in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

Charged with unlawful wounding is unemployed 25-year-old Andre West of an Adelaide Street, Kingston 16 address. In the same matter, charged with assault occasioning bodily harm is 36-year-old domestic helper Bridgette Russell of the same address.

It is alleged that on September 1 approximately 3:30 p.m., the pregnant complainant was at her home when an argument developed between herself and the female accused, who is her neighbour, over what is believed to be stolen funds.

Stone thrown

As a result a glass bowl was thrown by the female accused and hit the complainant on her arm and a stone thrown, which hit her on her 'baby bump'. It is believed that West intervened thereafter, throwing stones that allegedly hit the complainant in her face.

Following a report made to the police, the babymother and babyfather duo were arrested and charged.

During court proceedings, Russell appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate garbed in a brightly coloured yellow t-shirt with the phrase "will you shut up" inscribed, much to the dismay of the sitting magistrate.

"Why yu wear that shirt here?" asked RM Pusey. "Am I to shut up?"

The female accused responded meekly, gesturing by shaking her head.

Subsequently, both Russell and West had their bails extended. They are to return to court on December 15 for trial.
