A taxi operator who was charged with the murder of a Chinese businessman was remanded when he appeared in court last week.

The man, Elroy Heron, has been accused of killing businessman Jun Peng. Heron appeared in the May Pen Resident Magistrate's Court last Thursday. He will return to court on January 29, when his case will be mentioned again.

Peng, 26, who operated wholesale businesses in May Pen and Lionel Town, was found dead along the Dawkins Pen main road in Lionel Town, Vere, Clarendon. It is said he was robbed of approximately $250,000 before being killed.

Following investigation, Heron, 32, who is said to be well acquainted with the businessman, was detained, questioned and charged for the December 18 murder.
