MoBay man to be extradited for lottery scamming

A Montego Bay resident has become the first Jamaican to be extradited for lottery scamming activities following his apprehension yesterday, on an extradition warrant by the Fugitive Apprehension Team (FAT), THE WEEKEND STAR understands.

Damion Bryan Barrett, 28, a resident of Hendon, Norwood, St James, was issued with the warrant following an extradition request by the United States government.

Our news team understands that Barrett is considered the ringleader for a group of scammers.

THE WEEKEND STAR gathered that the accused will be tried for wire fraud.

United States prosecutors allege that Barrett is part of a major criminal network that has fleeced millions of dollars from US citizens, mainly elders, in the lottery scam.

Local authorities also told our news team that Barrett was the first scammer to be extradited and that one of his cronies is presently serving time in the United States for his role is the illicit trade.

Meanwhile, several persons have been charged locally under the anti-lottery scam act, most of whom are repeat offenders.

US legislators have long been advocating that Jamaican authorities extradite the main players in the lottery scam.
