The mother of seven-year-old Kadesha Cousins, the child whose body was found in the Rio Cobre near Dyke Road last year November, has died.
She died Wednesday morning.
A photograph of the mother and daughter during happier times was posted on the Facebook page of the Waterford Primary School, of which Kadesha was a student.
A woman who knew both Cousins and her mother believed that it was the pressure of losing the daughter that caused the death of the child's mother.
"She took it to heart and died at home. She just slept away and died," Teffon Johnson explained. She added, "She [the mother] wasn't the same after her daughter died."
A policeman at the Central Village Police Station confirmed the death of the child's mother.
Cousins, of West Avenue, Central Village, according to police, went missing. At that time, she was reported to have been dressed for school. Eventually, the child was seen in the river by fishermen, who summoned the police.
Vivian Scott, who, according to police investigators, is the former fiancée of one of the child's aunts, had been taken into custody following the incident. He was charged with murder.
