China Harbour workers expected back to work today

A meeting was called yesterday to get protesting workers of China Harbour Engineering Company Limited (CHEC) back on the job.

The workers, who have been off the job from about 6 o' clock yesterday morning, used bamboo trees and other objects to block a section of the Mount Rosser Bypass.

The workers said they are frustrated at the continuous anomalies in the payment of their salaries.

Regional Communications Manager at CHEC, Jennifer Armond, said the roadway had been cleared following the protest action.

Armond explained that the meeting called was expected to involve the management of CHEC, Member of Parliament for North West St Catherine, Robert Pickersgill, the liaison officer and workers to hold discussions on the dispute.

She said she expects that the workers will be back on the job today.
