Several councillors of the St Thomas Parish Council have come out in support of their colleague, Councillor Constantine Bogle, after he made controversial accusations against Acting Commander of the St Thomas police, Deputy Superintendent Charmaine Shand.
Shand and several colleagues walked out of a council meeting this morning after Bogle accused her of being unsuitable to lead the St Thomas police force and questioned whether her appointment was as a result of a personal relationship with a retired senior police officer.
Bogle, in defending his actions, pointed out that individuals within the public sphere were subject to scrutiny, and he was not incorrect in questioning her.
Sexual offences
Councillor Victor Hutchinson of the Port Morant Division agreed with Bogle, pointing out that the policeman had sullied the good name of another councillor, who was arrested at his home in the early morning and brought to the St Thomas lock-up to be questioned in relation to sexual offences committed against a minor.
"It is an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, fire for fire. They have decided to attack my colleague's personal life, so they are not above being questioned about their own," he said.
Hutchinson is also asking for the removal of a detective inspector whom he accused of playing politics and trying to destroy the political, religious and business sector of the parish.
Councillors are also upset that Deputy Superintendent Shand has refused to answer questions in the last council meeting regarding the alleged targeting of PNP representatives in the parish.
