A man accused of hitting a woman with an old refrigerator door was ordered remanded in custody when he appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Charged with assault occasioning bodily harm is Michael Bailey who pleaded 'guilty with explanation' to the offence.

Allegations are that on the day of the incident, the accused man, in a long-standing dispute with the female complainant, reportedly threw the door of an old out-of-use refrigerator to the scrap-metal trade, which hit her on her head, causing pain and swelling.

The court heard that Bailey operates a scrap-metal yard on a property adjoining the complainant's, which appeared to be the main point of contention between them.

In court, Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey ordered Bailey to pay a fine of $10,000 or serve six months in prison. A fingerprint order was also made against him.
