A United States fugitive held in Jamaica on Tuesday by members of the Fugitive Apprehension Team and Mobile Reserve Division, will be extradited to answer to murder charges.
The man, 30-year-old Cleon Brown, waived his right to an extradition hearing yesterday in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court.
Resident Magistrate Lorna Shelly-Williams told Brown, "You have two options, you can either consent to go back or wish to have an hearing, you are entitled to a hearing".
Brown, who was not represented by an attorney said, "Your honour I volunteer to go back."
Arrangements
Consent documents were later signed in court by Brown and the presiding magistrate, following which arrangements were expected to be made for his departure to the United States.
Brown, of Auburn Avenue, New York and Chester Castle, Hanover, was held in Chester Castle about 5:30 a.m.
US investigators say that in April 2013, Brown was involved in an altercation with his girlfriend, Elizabeth Hernandez, 33, during which she was attacked.
Shortly after the incident, Brown fled to Jamaica.
Stab wound
The decomposed body of Hernandez was later found in an apartment with a stab wound, and he was subsequently indicted in October 2013 in the state of New York for her murder.
According to http://ift.tt/1mQgIyR, the body was found in her basement with a wound to her abdomen. The police said they had been called to the apartment numerous times for domestic disputes.
