Man fined for mowing down transport inspector

A motorist who used his vehicle to mow down a transport inspector during a traffic check was fined a total of $25,000 when he appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court last Thursday.

Keneal Blake, 27-year-old, labourer of Linstead, St Catherine, was fined $5,000 or 10 days for disobeying the instruction of a transport officer; $5,000 for careless driving; $10,000 or 10 days for continuous driving on the right side and $5,000 or 10 days' imprisonment for leaving the scene of an accident.

The court heard that on April 5, 2013, about 8:30 a.m., transport personnel were carrying out operations along the Walks Road in St Catherine when Blake was seen driving a white Toyota Hiace bus laden with passengers.

He was signalled to stop, but he disobeyed and increased his speed hitting down one of the inspectors who suffered several broken bones.

He was subsequently held by the police and charged.

Blake has made numerous court appearances in the matter. He was not represented when he appeared.
