40 hours community service for assaulting girlfriend

A man accused of bashing his girlfriend's head into a fence was sentenced to 40 hours of community service when he appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.


He is Curtis Wint, charged with assault occasioning bodily harm.


After being asked by Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey why he would do such a thing, Wint replied: "Me and her have an altercation."


Compensation


"How long you plan to spend in jail?" RM Pusey asked.


The sitting magistrate then turned her attention to the complainant, asking her if she had received any compensation for the pain and embarrassment Wint had caused her.


"Well, he can't pay for that," the complainant said.


"Yes, we can work it out." RM Pusey replied.


Subsequently, RM Pusey ordered the accused to do 40 hours of community service.
