Ex-scrap metal employee awaits fate

A former employee of a scrap-metal business who is accused of stealing from that entity, while he was employed there, will have to wait a while longer before his fate is decided.

When the matter was called up in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court last Friday, the accused, Garette McLaughlin, did not enter a plea. He is charged with simple larceny.

The court was told that while McLaughlin was employed to the company, scrap metal valued at $1.2 million, which was under his jurisdiction, went missing.

The court, however, heard that additional statements were outstanding and should be before the court next week.

McLaughlin is to return to court on May 15.
