Man on murder rap in Britain will not be deported

A Jamaican illegal immigrant, who was sentenced to life in prison in Britain for a crime he committed in his teens, will not be deported after he stated he would be ostracised because he is gay.

The 29-year-old man, whose name is being withheld due to legal issues, was accused along with another for stabbing a 15-year-old boy to death less than a year after arriving in Britain on a visiting visa in 2000.

It is alleged that the Jamaican and his co-accused, who at the time of the offence was 16, were engaged in an argument with the deceased over a £10 debt outside a school in East London, when he attacked and stabbed him.

He was subsequently arrested and charged in 2002 and released from prison in 2012 after serving an eight-year sentence, with the expectation that he was to be deported to Jamaica afterwards.

According to the Daily Mail, in what is referred to as an extraordinary judgement, which has provoked outrage, the Court of Appeal ruled that he would not be sent back to Jamaica because he could face degrading treatment for being homosexual and that would breach his human rights.

The judge referred to Article Three in the Human Rights Act, which protects an individual from inhumane or degrading treatment.
