Ex-cop on car theft rap gets June date

The trial of an ex-policeman who is being accused of selling a motor car that he rented four years ago is set to continue in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on June 24.


Charged with larceny of motor vehicle is Delroy Haye of Portmore, St Catherine.


When the matter was called up yesterday, the Crown took the evidence of two of four witnesses and bound over two others, including the investigating officer, for the next hearing.


The Crown is leading evidence that in 2010, the accused rented a 2004 Toyota Altis valued at $1.4m from the owner for one week and failed to return it; all attempts to locate the complainant were unsuccessful.


It was revealed that calls to the number given by him went without an answer.


A report was made to the St Catherine South police and an investigation launched by Detective Constable Pavaul Brown.


The car was seen in Hanover in 2011 by police personnel, it was been driven by another man.


When accosted, the police was told that he bought the vehicle from the accused.


He was subsequently arrested and charged by the police and have made numerous court appearances where he has maintained his innocence.
