A dispute over a now deceased man resulted in one woman receiving 28 stitches and another answering to wounding charges when she appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday.
Charged with unlawful wounding is 39-year-old mother of two, Trudy Martin, of a Kingston address.
It is alleged that last Friday, August 15 around 11 a.m., the complainant was standing in Clock Tower Plaza, Half-Way-Tree, when she was attacked by the accused and a ratchet knife was allegedly used to wound her.
The complainant received stab wounds to the face, chest, and stomach and received multiple stitches. She was hospitalised for two days after the incident.
Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey asked the complainant and the accused for the cause of the fight to which the complainant responded, "we weren't fighting. I was standing at my workplace and me hear 'hey gyal' and me turn around and she stab me!"
According to the accused, the dispute was about 'a mutual friend.'
It was revealed that the 'mutual friend' was the father of the accused woman's children, who was also in a relationship with the complainant.
RM Pusey then asked them for the whereabouts of the 'mutual friend' and it was revealed that gunmen killed him shortly after the dispute.
The senior magistrate said to the accused, "you might end up in prison over a dead man, was it worth it?"
The accused told the judge that it was the complainant who attacked her first and she only retaliated.
Martin is to return to court on December 9 when the medical certificate is to be presented.
